The subject of algebraic cycles has thrived through its interaction with algebraic K-theory, Hodge theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, number theory, and topology. These interactions have led to such developments as a description of Chow groups in terms of algebraic K-theory, the arithmetic Abel-Jacobi mapping, progress on the celebrated conjectures of Hodge and Tate, and the conjectures of Bloch and Beilinson.

Topics include a discussion of the arithmetic Abel-Jacobi mapping, higher Abel-Jacobi regulator maps, polylogarithms and L-series, candidate Bloch-Beilinson filtrations, applications of Chern-Simons invariants to algebraic cycles via the study of algebraic vector bundles with algebraic connection, motivic cohomology, Chow groups of singular varieties, and recent progress on the Hodge and Tate conjectures for Abelian varieties.

Reprinted by popular demand, this monograph presents a comprehensive study of positive operators between Riesz spaces and Banach lattices. Since the first publication of this book, (Academic Press, 1985), the subject of positive operators and Riesz spaces has found many applications in several disciplines, including social sciences and engineering. It is well known that many linear operators between Banach spaces arising in classical analysis are in fact positive operators. Therefore we study here positive operators in the setting of Riesz spaces and Banach lattices and from both the algebraic and topological points of view. Special emphasis is given to the compactness properties of positive operators and their relations to the order structures of the spaces the operators are acting upon. In order to make the book as self-sufficient as possible, some basic results from the theory of Riesz spaces and Banach lattices are included with proofs where necessary. However, familiarity with the elementary concepts of real analysis and functional analysis is assumed. The book is divided into five chapters, each consisting of nineteen sections all ending with exercises designed to supplement and illustrate the material.

The annual high school contests have been sponsored since 1950 by the Mathematical association of America and the Society of Actuaries, and more recently by Mu Alpha Theta (1965), the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (1967) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (1971). Problems from the contests during the period 1950-1960 are published in Volume 5 of the New Mathematical Library, and those for 1961-1965 are published in Volume 17. The New Mathematical Library will continue to publish these contest problems from time-to-time; the present volume contains those from the period 1966-1972. The questions were compiled by Professor C.T. Salkind until his death, and since 1968 by Professor J.M. Earl, who died on November 25, 1972 after submitting problems for the 1973 contest. Professors Earl and Salkind also prepared the solutions for the contest problems. In preparing this and the earlier Contest Problem Books the editors of the NML have expanded these solutions and added alternative solutions.

The International Olympiad has been held annually since 1959; the U.S. began participating in 1974, when the Sixteenth International Olympiad was held in Erfurt, G.D.R.
In 1974 and 1975, the National Science Foundation funded a three week summer training session with Samuel L. Greitzer of Rutgers University and Murray Klamkin of the University of Alberta as the U.S. teams' coaches. Summer training sessions in 1976, 1977 were funded by grants from the Army Research Office and Office of Naval Research. To date the U.S. teams have consistently placed among the top three national scores: second in 1974(the USSR was first), third in 1975 (behind Hungary and the G.D.R) and 1976 (behind the USSR and Great Britain) and first in 1977.
Members of U.S. team are selected from the 100 top scorers on the Annual High School Examinations (see NML vols. 5, 17, 25) by subsequent competition in the U.S. Mathematical Olympiad.
In this volume the demonstrably effective coach and prime mover in planning the participation of the U.S.A. in the I.M.O., Samuel L. Greitzer, has compiled all the IMO problems from the First through the Nineteenth (1977) IMO and their solutions, some based on the contestants' papers.
The problems ae solvable by methods accessible to secondary school students in most nations, but insight and ingenuity are often required. A chronological examination of the questions throws some light on the changes and trends in secondary school mathematics curricula.
